The August channel will include transboundary bicycle and water routes
This was stated at the meeting of the Grodno Oblast Executive Committee by the head of the Sports and Tourism Department of the Oblast Executive Committee Oleg Andreichik.
Exactly a year has passed since the establishment of the visa-free regime for entry into Grodno and the park "Augustow Canal". This positively affected the tourist development of a unique hydraulic structure. Since the beginning of the year, it was visited by 85 thousand tourists, which is 14 thousand more than in 2016. The number of foreign tourists on the canal has grown more than 3-fold.
In addition, the water transboundary route along the canal and the Neman river is actively moving through Poland, Belarus and Lithuania.
Decree No. 318, which gives the right to foreign tourists to visit the territory of the special tourist and recreational park "Augustow Canal" without visas, entered into force on October 26, 2016. The document provides for the possibility of visa-free entry for a period of five days on the territory of the park and in the surrounding settlements of the Grodno region and the city of Grodno. During this time, more than 43 thousand tourists from 65 countries took advantage of this right.
Proposals were made to extend the decree. The Grodno region is taking the initiative to increase the possibility of visa-free tourists staying for 10 days. This primarily contributes to the development of sanatorium and medical tourism. In addition, it is planned to increase the visa-free zone to the entire Grodno oblast. In addition to automobile checkpoints, visa-free tourists will be able to use the railway station, as well as the Grodno airport.
