该园在十八世纪70年代由欧洲著名自然科学家、医学家、解剖学家和植物学家让-埃·日利贝尔创建。在园内曾生长过多种格罗德诺耶稣会药房制药所需的植物。自1989年起该园以其创建者的名字来命名。
